Educator

As a teacher, my identity is shaped by my interactions with students and my ability to understand how they engage with music, both in performance and in its abstract forms. I view my role as one of discovering the most effective ways to nurture and develop each student's musical potential, tailoring my approach to help them grow as musicians.

Garofalo

The Garofalo project gives an opportunity to do score study on a specific piece while also digesting the music from an educational lens, with different aspects aligning with creative projects that might be seen in a future classroom. The piece I used for my project was Shimmering Sunshine by Kevin Day

Projects

75 Texts to Teach

The 75 Texts to Teach is a curated Padlet resource designed to approach music through various critical literacy perspectives. In collaboration with Trinity Icaza, we compiled a diverse collection of 75 texts that offer valuable insights and tools for students to deepen understanding of music from multiple angles, creating pathways for critical engagement and reflection.

Independent Musical Inquiry

The IMI project is another educational opportunity to create some sort of deliverable that can broaden a musical perspective. Along with Emma Plummer, we created a concert series to showcase numerous composers with disabilities.

Staff

Beavercreek City Schools

In July of 2023, I became a member of the woodwind staff at Beavercreek under Matt Frost and Heather Marsh-Myers. With their feedback and direction, I was able to effectively rehearse the woodwind section of their marching band during the band camp portion of their season.

Teaching Experience

Fairfield City Schools

During Fairfield’s 2024 marching band season, I was able to join them as a member of their woodwind staff. Working with the faculty of Jill Wilhelm, Maddie Wessel, Darren Ling, and Mitch Hardy, I became better at reflecting my philosophy in my teaching, and making sure rehearsals run smoothly and productively.

During assigned field placements with Miami University, I was placed with Richard Gonzalez, where I was able to observe the middle school teaching experience, and experiment with different strategies. This experience allowed me to find a lot of value from middle school education.

Edgewood Middle School

Edgewood middle school gave me the opportunity to make much larger improvements on my rehearsal technique faster. Nick Fields allowed for me to lead his classroom and gave me very beneficial feedback in how I approach both conducting and communicating with middle school musicians.
